7 Golden Rules of shoe care

All Fragiacomo shoes and accessories are hand made by the best Italian artisans using fine leathers – from the high-quality calf leather, moose leather or deerskin to exotic leathers like sharkskin or crocodile leather with great attention to details.

Since the moment when the artisanal work of art passes from the master shoemaker to the purchaser the life and maintenance of this unique handmade piece is relied on the customer.

The life expectancy and appearance of the shoes depends on the quality of materials used and the expertise of shoemaker, certainly, but they also depend to a great extent on the care they receive from the wearer. That’s why it’s important to know how to clean, polish and store your precious shoes in a right way, especially when it comes to men’s classic leather shoes.

Discover some golden rules of shoe care that will help you to keep your luxury shoes in the best condition and enjoy them at every wear.

1. Wear new shoes not more than for two-three hours at a time. Only after the shoes and the feet are completely accustomed to each other start to wear them all day.

2. Don’t wear your shoes for more than one day – let them rest and get back to shape at least for 24 hours, always with shoe trees inside.

3. Store all your leather shoes with shoe trees inside regardless the model – it will help to keep them in their initial shape.

4. If you got under the rain with your leather shoes let them dry in a cool place with wooden shoe trees inside, lying on their sides rather than standing on their soles, for at least 24 hours. Don’t store them near the heat!

5. Clean the shoes with a soft brush made of horsehair or wipe them down with a soft cloth and polish them with shoe cream using a soft brush or a cloth after each wearing, even if they appear to have lost none of their original gleam. For the lace-up models remove the laces before cleaning and polishing the shoes.

6. Use the shoe cream the closest to the colour of your shoes or the neutral one, especially if the shoes have combined colours. For different colours of cream always use different brushes to avoid unpredictable colour mix.

7. If you don’t wear your shoes for an extended period, apply a thin coating of cream, put them inside the textile dust bag (you can always find one in the box with your Fragiacomo shoes) and place them inside the original box.
